  • Aduvus – the student begins by learning the basic steps that forms the foundation for the dancer.
  • Introduction to Hastas – various mudras ( hand gestures ) to match the aduvus.
  • Pushpanjali – an invocatory dance item, literally meaning "An offering of flowers"
  • Introduction to Navarasa – the nine varied emotions used in dance. Examples:
  • Shringara – love, Veera- heroism, Roudra – Anger
  • Preparation for a Vandana – a dance item in praise of the Lord

Syllabus – Advance Course

  • Advance Aduvus – the dancer proceeds to learn more intricate steps and combine them to form a jati.
  • Introduction to Alarippu– an invocatory item where the dancer begins with neck movements and proceeds to form symmetric hand and foot movements ending with vibrant footwork.
  • Understanding the importance of Bhava ( Emotions ), Raga ( Music ) and Taala ( Rhythm ).
  • Padam – a pure abhinaya item theat involves using only facial expressions to convey a story with the help pf beautiful lyrical songs.
  • Kollata – A folk dance of south India usually performed during Diwali.
